give and take (but mostly give)

give + take is a book about a modern day robin hood type. and conchord free press gave the book away (i.e., free) to anyone who requested a copy – with the stipulation that you [a] make a donation to the charity of your choice, [b] pass the book along to someone else when you’re done (who would then repeat all these steps), and [c] help track the whole project online. kinda brilliant.

i wasn’t exactly blown away by the prose, but stona fitch could turn a phrase once in a while. more importantly, it was just crackin’ good story. a well-paced, very imaginative page-turner. which also happens to be asking you to contemplate material/financial wealth and it’s distribution. i’d tell you to pick up a copy, but they’re all gone. keep an eye on this publisher, though: they claim to want to support this publishing model with two new books every year.
